Bring your classroom to ShangriLlama Castle on a weekday morning to meet and learn all about llamas in the castle barn. These special, hour-long sessions consist of age-appropriate Llama Llessons for ages four and up. Afterward, students and teachers are invited to take photos with the llamas in front of the castle gatehouse (weather-permitting). Visits are discounted at $6 per student (retail $20), with five teachers invited as complimentary guests.
What Will Students Learn During Their School Visit With the Llamas?
The Llama Queen together with Lady Llama will teach how llamas are different than other animals. Students will observe the llamas and together answer questions posed by the presenters. Children will meet each llama, learn the differences between llamas and alpacas, know what llamas eat, experiment with their wool (hypoallergenic), hear about their daily activities, find out how fast they are, and learn many additional, interesting facts.
How Many Students Can the Castle Barn Accommodate?
Fifty students can comfortably be seated on the benches inside of the castle barn. Teachers will be seated on chairs next to groupings of students. We can accommodate larger groups of any size (weather permitting) outside.
Some schools combine classrooms to meet the minimum total of 50 students per session. Others bring their additional classrooms immediately following the first group, or the next day or the next week or so.
If you are comfortable having your students attend a session at the same time that another small school attends, then we are happy to combine the two schools into one session.
Do You Offer Sessions For Students With Learning Or Physical Disabilities?
We have hosted many sessions for children with a variety of learning and physical disabilities, because llamas are gentle animals and naturally therapeutic. Please contact llama@ShangriLlama.com for more information.
May Young Children Attend a Llama Llesson?
Children ages 4 and up are invited. Our insurer does not allow us to admit toddlers, infants, strollers or baby carriers.
Would your PTA like to host a llama book fundraiser? ShangriLlama Castle will donate $3.50 to your PTA for every copy of The Llamas of ShangriLlama sold at our $16.99 retail price the day of and two weeks prior to your school’s visit, as long as a minimum of 30 books are purchased.
Each book is signed by the Llama Queen at ShangriLlama Castle, who was once a professional ghostwriter of nonfiction books. This book teaches 30 facts about llamas using rhyme and colorful, professional illustrations of the very llamas the children will meet during their visit!
What is Your Address?
ShangriLlama Castle is a private facility in Royse City, Texas, operated by a family. For the privacy of this family who live at the castle, and for the safety of their beautiful, pedigreed llamas, the castle’s address is only provided when a reservation is made. The castle itself is gated, and the llamas are not visible from the street. All visitors require an advance reservation. Thank you for your understanding.
